Is Suga starting his military service?
Yes. It was announced on Aug. 7, 2023, that Suga will begin his mandatory service enlistment process, canceling his enlistment postponement. But the exact date of enlistment has not been confirmed yet.
"Suga has completed the application for canceling the postponement of his enlistment, and follow-up news regarding his military enlistment will be announced as soon as it is decided," the agency wrote on Weverse. "We ask for warm support and unchanging love until the day Suga completes his military service and returns in good health. We will continue our support for our artist," BigHit Music said on Aug. 7, 2023.
Suga is expected to be the third member of BTS to enlist for mandatory service, following members Jin and J-Hope. All Korean men fit to serve have to complete compulsory service of at least 18 months.
Who is Agust D?
Agust D, an anagram of "D tsugA," referring to "Daegu town Suga," is Suga's second stage name, which is derived from his hometown, Daegu.
Suga released on April 21, 2023, his first full-length solo album, "D-DAY," under his stage name Agust D. Before the official launch of his solo career in 2023, he released two mixtapes "Agust D" (2016) and "D-2" (2020) on SoundCloud. The three solo releases, including "D-DAY," conclude the Agust D trilogy.
"D-DAY" sold over 1.27 million copies in the first week of its release, making it the second most-sold album by a solo artist in Korea on the first week of its release. The album also landed No. 2 on Billboard's 200 chart.
